What Should I Wear?
You can wear casual business wear. Wear comfortable shoes as you will be on your feet and walking around for large parts of the day. It is not necessary to wear a suit or dress, although it is not inappropriate either. These are business meetings. You are selling you or something you wrote. Make sure they remember what you’re selling and not how you’re dressed.
Make The Most of Your Pitch Fest Experience?
Stay at the Tuscany Suites & Casino so you are close to everything that is going on. This will be your best chance to maybe see or meet up with someone you may have pitched to early in the day. This is where all the industry will be staying. It’s the best thing for networking.
Practice your pitch at home on family and friends. You will have 5 minutes to make your pitch. I would get that pitch down to 3 minutes this will give you 2 minutes to answer questions, and relax during the pitch. Having your pitch only be 3 minutes means you will leave each meeting feeling like you did your best.
Be professional and positive at all times, especially in the lines. You never know if you are standing next to a potential co-producer or business partner.
Remember, gamble on yourself, but if you gamble in the casino and win a lot of money, make sure you share it with our staff!
May I Leave Behind Onesheets Or Business Card, Etc.?
Yes! Well, that is if the company you are pitching to want the info you have. Most of the time they will be more than happy to take your promo material. Onesheets are used as ‘selling tools’ and are a great way to present your material to a company. Business cards are a great way for them to contact you when they want to reach you about your TV show idea or script.
What is a Onesheet?
They are are similar to a ‘flyer’ or movie poster to communicate your concept in a one page sheet, or as a double-sided document. Many industry executives like onesheets because they provide a visual reference to your story or idea, and it makes it easier for them to then present to their colleagues and other executives when pitching it at the office or at a studio.
How Do I Protect Myself, And My Script/Idea From Being Stolen?
The following is generally required before a company will even review your work:
- Register your material with the WGA. For pricing and other details, visit Writers Guild of America.
- Register your material with the Copyright office Copyright.gov
- Maintain a paper trail to track who you pitched, what you discussed, what was submitted, and record dates for all activities.
- You may choose to send material through a third party, such as an agent, manager, or entertainment attorney. A lot of networks require your material be sent this way.
We are not offering legal advice, we are only making suggestions for you. You should seek legal counsel to ensure you are protected as much as possible.
Many standup comics and writers are so worried that their ideas will be stolen that they never take a chance. Gamble on yourself and take a chance. It can’t become a TV show if you don’t tell anyone about it.
How Do I Prepare For Each Meeting?
Once we have all the info on the companies that will be attending we will email you a list of the companies and information about each company. What they are looking for and what they have produced. This will help you plan for your meetings. You will be able to use this list to learn about who you’re meeting with and who you want to meet with 1st. and who you want to meet with last.
When Can I Learn Which Companies Are Attending?
We are contacting companies now. We have produced The World Series of Comedy for the past 6 years, so we know what it takes to produce a festival. We will update the website as soon as we have the info we need from the companies attending. We feel it will not be hard to get the Hollywood companies to attend after all it’s in Las Vegas!
Will I Be Standing In Line All Day?
You do not need to stand in line all day. You can take breaks between your pitches if you want. Of course the more you’re in line the more meeting you will get. We will do everything we can to make sure you’re not waiting in line a long time before each meeting. Some lines will be longer than others leaving other line shorter with less wait time. You never know who you’re in line with so you may end up doing some networking while waiting for your next pitch meeting.
Can More Than One Person Share A Meeting?
Yes. Sometimes pitching as a team will make it more fun and less stressful. If you both came up with the idea, why not show them how you work together. There is an extra cost for each team member. You will find this option on the registration form.
What Is The Friday Night Pitch Class?
This will be help at 8pm after registration for the night has closed. It will take place in the pitch room. We will go over how it’s all going to work, then you will practice your pitch on each other. Talk about how it went and then get some sleep for your big days ahead.
How many meeting do I get?
It all depends on the work you are going to put into this festival. If you’re coming to only meet with a few people then it should not be hard for that to happen. If you want to get in as many meetings as you can, it will take some work from you, but there is no reason you will not be able to have more meeting then you thought you would get to have. We do not guarantee anyone a certain number of pitches.
How Long Is Each Pitch Meeting?
Five minutes long. By staying at the hosting hotel you have a great chance to network. This is where all the industry will be staying so there is a good chance you will be able to run into them someplace at the hotel or casino and continue your talks.
